Grey iron

Grey iron is the cheapest ferrous alloy. Examples of common use are as counter-weights in weigh-bridges & level-crossing barriers, front weights for tractors, etc. In fact, grey iron can be used anywhere where there are only low mechanical forces to withstand. For instance, gearbox casings are often in cast iron whilst the internal workings tend to be in harder wearing and stronger materials. Because of its low viscosity when molten, it is ideally suited for thin-walled profiled components where aesthetics are important.

Examples of such parts are feet for furniture & lamps, stove elements, cooking plate grills, etc.

Quality ratings are EN-GJL-150, -200, -250 and -300. We supply automated castings up to approximately 150kgs unit weight and manually moulded parts up to 15 tonnes.
